SUNGKUI THE TRADITIONAL CULINARY OF SANGGAU

Sungkui is a traditional Sanggau food made of rice wrapped in Keririt leaves so that it is oval and thin and elongated. Sungkui is a typical Sanggau food for banquets for parties or on big days such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Quoted from the book “The Origin of Sungkui The Traditional Food of Sanggau”, based on his history, the origin of Sungkui comes from the story of the marriage of Lang Burung or Abang Merakai with the brother of King Bruneng or Brunei which is also called Negeri Malujja Bulang, named Ratu Pingan Pelangka. To keep the face and body of Ratu Pingan Pelangka beautiful and fresh, Abang Merakai makes a food called Sungui. This Sungui food was obtained by Abang Merakai from his father named Aban or Iban. Sungui's name was then accented with Sungkui. Furthermore, Ratu Pingan Pelangka was given the title as Queen of Sungui or Queen of Sungkui.
